Unchained Labs Combines AI and Automation for Biologics Screening
Unchained Labs, a provider of AI-driven automation and analytical tools for life sciences research, has launched its AI Developability Workcell, a laboratory system designed to automate the process of screening biologic drug candidates for characteristics that can affect their suitability for further development.
Built on the company's Stuntman automation platform, the workcell integrates three existing instruments. Stunner measures concentration, size, polydispersity and aggregation; Aunty evaluates thermal and colloidal stability; and Lil' Tuna performs buffer exchange and sample concentration.
Stuntman coordinates the experiments and maintains connections between the resulting datasets. Built-in AI then combines the results so researchers can compare candidates without manually assembling information from separate analytical applications. The plate-based workflow is also designed to reduce sample requirements while increasing the number of candidates that can be screened.
Researchers can incorporate additional measurements, including pH, visual inspection and stress testing, from instruments outside the workcell. Unchained Labs said the system is intended to replace workflows that require researchers to move samples manually among preparation and analytical systems.
That approach can reduce data handoffs, but production deployments still depend on consistent instrument integration, data traceability and validation, particularly when automated analysis contributes to decisions about which drug candidates advance.
