Oracle Extends Clinical AI Agent to Nursing Workflows

Oracle Health, a provider of health care technology and clinical software, has expanded its Clinical AI Agent to nurses in the U.S., adding AI-assisted documentation and information retrieval directly within Oracle Health Foundation EHR.

Nurses can use natural-language voice commands to search and navigate patient records. The system also generates acute nursing summaries that provide concise views of patient history and current condition, reducing the need to manually review information distributed across a chart.

A voice-enabled discrete charting capability lets nurses enter structured documentation near the point of care. Unlike AI systems that primarily generate narrative notes, discrete charting can place information into structured EHR fields used by downstream clinical workflows.

Oracle said early adopters are evaluating the technology as a way to reduce time spent documenting after shifts. BayCare Health System CIO Lynnette Clinton said real-time documentation could reduce after-shift charting and administrative work.

The nursing features extend Oracle's existing Clinical AI Agent, whose clinical note capabilities are primarily aimed at physicians. Oracle said those tools have saved physicians more than 400,000 hours across U.S. health organizations since their introduction nearly two years ago.

For health care IT teams, embedding AI directly into the EHR addresses an important deployment issue: clinicians can use automation without moving patient information into a separate application. Oracle also says clinicians remain in control, an important consideration when AI-generated information contributes to patient documentation and care coordination.
