Google and Humana Partner to Enhance AI Healthcare Delivery
Humana, the Louisville, Ky.-based health insurer, has entered a new multi-year agreement with Google Cloud aimed at modernizing its cloud infrastructure with the assistance of Google's advanced AI capabilities.
The agreement marks a step forward in Humana’s ongoing efforts to integrate technology into healthcare delivery, with the goal of reducing costs and improving patient experiences, according to the company. "At Humana, we plan to use the capabilities offered by Google Cloud to make it easier for our members and patients to have affordable access to the right care at the right time," said Jim Rechtin, Humana Chief Executive Officer.
Humana provides insurance and healthcare services to millions in the U.S. through its offerings, including CenterWell, and specializes in assisting those on Medicare, Medicaid and military families.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the potential for this collaboration to unlock new opportunities for operational efficiency and personalized care. "Combining Humana's deep healthcare expertise with Google Cloud's AI and cloud technologies can transform the delivery of healthcare," said Kurian.
Humana said it is committed to the ethical use of AI, ensuring that human oversight is maintained in clinical decision-making processes. Google Cloud, known for its secure infrastructure, will continue to protect patient data in compliance with HIPAA regulations, according to the announcement.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This week's partnership expands Google's AI technology collaboration efforts. In April, Google announced a partnership with life science company Bayer to develop radiology applications powered by its generative AI, expanding an earlier pairing announcement with the company to further drug discovery efforts.
