In early March, Databricks, the company formed by the creators of Apache Spark to create "solution accelerators" and other products that work with the open source large-scale data analytics engine, announced the launch of a new offering: Lakehouse for Healthcare and Life Sciences.

Lakehouse is the company's offering that combines data lake/data warehousing capabilities and AI capabilities, and can combine data from any cloud platform combination, both structured and unstructured.

Lakehouse for Healthcare and Life Sciences brings the "simple, open and multi-cloud platform" provided by Lakehouse to health care and life science industries, and then adds on the custom-made solution accelerators that Databricks is known for, as well as offerings by partners, to create "high-value analytics and AI use cases such as disease prediction, medical image classification, and biomarker discovery," the company said.

Partners offering add-ons include John Snow Labs, Accenture, Lovelytics and ZS.

Some of the challenges that Databricks says Lakehouse for Healthcare and Life Sciences can solve include 360-degree patient views (via the ability to combine all data types), population-level insights for researchers, real-time operations and care data, and predictive health, among others.

Some of the digital accelerators currently highlighted on the company's site include:

According to the company, current customers include Accenture, Cognizant and Sanofi, among others.
